Abstract
A characteristic feature of modern electrical and electronic devices is their relatively low immunity for surges. This applies both to the immunity for direct impact of the electromagnetic field pulse, as well as immunity to surge voltages and currents coming to these devices from the power supply installation and the signal transmission line. Design and implementation of a proper system overvoltage protection of signal circuits requires the necessary information on the basic parameters characterizing the threat occurring during direct and nearby lightning strikes and requirements of electromagnetic compatibility for these devices.
