Abstract

The article presents a device for the measurement of the flatness of piston rings of combustion engines in a mass production process. The existing quality systems force the manufacturers to conduct an ongoing monitoring of the products that would help them eliminate or minimise the possibility of defects. In the case of piston rings, one of the parameters that significantly influences the operation of the sealed centre is its flatness. A proper measurement of flatness requires the tested object to be immobilized along the reference plane. The developed device helps one to maintain repeatable measurement conditions connected with the required way of immobilization consisting in the pressing of the ring to the reference plane with equal force in the five defined points. The device enables quick and concurrent change in the value of the load in each point depending on the diameter and the thickness of the tested ring.
