How to submit a paper to AMME - user guide

We have created a step-by-step guide to help you through the process of submitting your paper. The authors can also use our step-by-step guides to submitting a revised manuscript.

User Guide

Article types

Full-length papers, containing original research work and review papers on all topics within the scope of Advances in Mechanical and Materials Engineering are welcomed.

Original Research Article reports the results of original research, assesses its contribution to the knowledge of a given research area. We consider all submissions as original research manuscripts provided it reports scientific experiments and provides a substantial amount of novel information. A research article usually contains at least: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions and References.

Review Article summarizes the current state of understanding in a given research area by citing relevant recent studies. It analyzes or discusses the researches that previously published, rather than reporting new experimental results.

The content of the article

The paper should be prepared in the following order:

• Full author name (Name and Surname, not initials)
• Title (avoid abbreviations and formulae where possible)
• Affiliation(s) (full institutional mailing address and e-mail); we recommended providing the ORCID iD of each coauthor
• Abstract
• Keywords
• The main text (Introduction, Material and methods, Results and discussion, and Conclusions)
• Acknowledgements
• References

Abstract

The abstract should be self-contained and citation-free. A total of about 100-200 words is recommended. The abstract should contain all the essential information about the paper: the aim of the work, research methodology, results and main conclusions. The abstract should not contain any undefined abbreviations or references.

Preparation of Figures

All figures must be numbered in the order in which they appear in the manuscript (e.g. Fig. 1, Fig. 2). In multi-part figures, each part should be labelled (e.g. Fig. 1a, Fig. 1b). All drawings, graphs and tables should be implemented directly within the body of the text. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce any previously published or copyrighted material (figures, tables, text passages) included in their submission. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors.

There is no charge for colour figures.

Tables

Tables should be prepared using the MS Word table tool. Tables should provide new information, not duplicate text, and should be cited in numerical order in the text. Tables should be numbered consecutively according to the order in which they are mentioned in the text. Table captions should always be positioned above the tables.

Equations

If you are using Word, please use either the Microsoft Equation Editor or the MathType add-on. Equations should be editable by the editorial office and not appear in a picture format.

Units of Measurement

SI Units (International System of Units) should be used.

Declarations

The following statements should be included under the heading "Declarations" for inclusion in the published paper.

Authors’ contributions: Authors are required to include a statement of responsibility in the manuscript that specifies the contribution of every author. We encourage authors to list author roles under the CRediT taxonomy. In this section, authors must also declare that "All authors have read and agreed to the published version of the manuscript".

Funding: All articles need to include a funding statement, even if you did not receive funding. Any government and non-government support must be acknowledged. If the Author(s) received financial support for the research, please add “This research was funded by [name of funder] grant number []”. If your research was supported indirectly by grants available to your institution, but not to you personally, please include this statement: "This research received no external funding".

Ethical approval and informed consent: This statement concerns studies involving animals and/or humans. Authors should report that the study was reviewed and approved by an appropriate ethics review committee and must include the name of the ethics committee and the reference number where appropriate. You might also choose to exclude this statement if the study did not involve animals and/or humans.

Declaration of competing interest: All authors must declare any personal circumstances and financial or non-financial interests that could inappropriately influence the representation or interpretation of reported results. Any role of the funding sponsors in the design of the study; in the analysis or interpretation of data; in the writing of the manuscript; or in the decision to publish the results should be declared if there is a conflict of interest. If no conflicts exist, the authors should state: “The authors declare that they have no known competing financial interests or personal relationships that could have appeared to influence the work reported in this paper”.

Data availability statement: Authors are requested to provide details regarding where the data supporting the reported results can be found. If the data supporting the findings are available upon request from the authors, we recommend declaring: “The data that support the findings of this study are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request”. If the data are available in the article or supplementary material, we recommend declaring: “The data used to support the findings of this study are already included in the article/supplementary material”. For data available in a publicly accessible repository, the recommended statement is: “The original data presented in the study are openly available in [repository name] at [URL] or [reference/accession number]”. If no new data were generated, or if the article describes entirely theoretical research, the suggested statement is: “Data sharing is not applicable to this article as no datasets were generated or analysed during the current study”. If the recommended templates do not match the circumstances of the data, authors may write their own statement.

Declaration of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the manuscript preparation process: Authors must declare the use of generative AI tools in the manuscript preparation process upon submission of the paper. Example of a declaration: “In preparing this manuscript, the author(s) used the following [generative AI technologies/tools] in order to [reason/s]. Prior to submission, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take(s) full responsibility for the content of the published article”. AI-assisted improvements may include wording and formatting changes to the texts, but do not include generative editorial work and autonomous content creation. The use of an LLM (or other AI-tool) to improve spelling, grammar, and general editing purposes does not need to be declared. If generative AI or AI-assisted technologies were not used, the authors may choose to omit this statement. Alternatively, the following statement should be included: “The authors declare that no generative AI or AI-assisted technologies were used in the preparation of this manuscript.”

List of references

Crediting sources and formatting references according to the style of the American Psychological Association (APA). For APA the reference list is arranged in alphabetical order of authors' surnames. The references must be listed in alphabetical order by the names of the authors, i.e. in the usual A-Z order of the English alphabet.

The number of self-citations should not exceed 20%.

If the article has a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) number, it should be included at the end of the reference.

Double-blind peer review guidelines

To facilitate double-blind peer review, the following sections of the manuscript (please see the Manuscript Template section below) are removed by the editorial office before the manuscript is sent for peer review: all authors’ names and affiliations, the corresponding author’s identifying information, acknowledgements, declaration of competing interest, authors’ contributions statement, and any other declarations or statements that could identify the authors. Other steps also need to be taken to ensure that the manuscript is properly prepared for double-blind peer review. The key points to consider are:
Make sure that figures and tables do not contain any references to the authors’ affiliations.
Choose file names with care and remove any author information from the metadata of all submitted files.
Remove any author names from the figures.
When referring to your own work in the manuscript, use neutral terminology. Replace phrases such as “we/the authors have previously demonstrated (Lee & Zhang, 2023)” with “Lee and Zhang (2023) have demonstrated” or a similar neutral formulation.

Copyright permissions

Note that it is the author's responsibility to obtain written permission from the copyright holder for figures and tables reused from elsewhere. Please add references to the caption and put appropriate credit lines, for example: Copyright year by Copyright Holder. Reprinted with permission.

Information for authors

1. The submitted work should be original ans should not have been published elsewhere in any form or language (partially or in full).
2. Your article must be within the scope of the journal and be of sufficient quality.
3. Language of publication: English. Both British and U.S. English are acceptable but Authors should be consistent in their usage.
4. Preferred size: Articles should be no shorter than 6 pages. There is no strict maximum length for articles. However, we encourage authors to keep original research articles to 15 pages or less. Review articles should ideally be no more than 25 pages.
5. Corresponding author should provide the following contact details: full postal address for correspondence, e-mail address and telephone number (optional)
6. Submitted articles will be published after a minimum of two favourable reviews and editorial approval.
7. The journal strives to return reviewers comments to authors within max. 6 weeks.
8. For revised submissions, the authors should include a point-by-point response to the reviewer comments with your cover letter, including a list of changes made and a rebuttal to any comments with which they disagree. Any revisions to the manuscript should be highlighted in the resubmitted manuscript.
9. The Editorial Board reserves the right to make the necessary shortcuts, editorial and language corrections on accepted papers.
10. Advances in Mechanical and Materials Engineering is published online in an electronic version on the journal's website.

Peer review appeals and complaints from authors

Advances in Mechanical and Materials Engineering journal follow the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines  on appeals to journal editor decisions and complaints about a journal’s editorial management of the peer review process. If the authors want to appeal an editorial decision, they should submit an appeal letter to the journal's online editorial office (amme@prz.edu.pl). Authors should provide specific responses to any of the editor's and/or reviewers' comments that contributed to the reject decision. Editors may confirm their decision to reject the manuscript, invite a revised manuscript, or seek additional peer review of the original manuscript.

Open Access articles in the journal are published under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License CC BY 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/). The licence permits unrestricted use, distribution and reproduction in any medium, provided that the original work is cited properly.

Article Processing Charges

The journal does not impose Article Processing Charges, submission charges or page charges.

Large Language Models in scientific writing

Authors must declare the use of generative AI tools in the manuscript preparation process upon submission of the paper. Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT and generative artificial intelligence (AI) as productivity tools can help authors in preparing their article for submission; to generate initial ideas for a structure or to improve readability and language. However, authors should be aware of the imperfections and limitations of AI tools in the replication of human creative and critical thinking. The authors should clearly indicate the use of LLMs in the manuscript, in the the „Declaration of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the manuscript preparation process” section. Authors are also obliged to ensure that there is no potential for plagiarism where the LLM may have reproduced substantial text or images from other sources.

Plagiarism prevention with CrossCheck

The editorial board undertake the comprehensive manuscripts screening, aiming to eliminate plagiarism and provide a high standard, quality peer-review process.

All submissions are checked for plagiarism using the Crossref Similarity Check (powered by iThenticate) software. The Similarity Index must not exceed the limit 25%, and the single paper similarity must not exceed the limit of 5%. If plagiarism is detected during the peer review process, the manuscript will be rejected.
